As we age, physical and functional changes can impact muscle strength, daily movement, independence, and quality of life.1 Active Vitality & Strength contains a patented Sphaeranthus indicus and Mangifera indica extract combo that has been shown to help improve aerobic physical fitness, support functional fitness, and promote overall health (when combined with regular exercise).
Benefits in older adults
In a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical study, participants (men and post-menopausal women) taking 650 mg of a patented S. indicus and M. indica extract combo reported improvements in feelings of vitality, functional fitness, including muscle strength, hand grip strength, aerobic output, and muscle endurance compared to the placebo group.
All participants followed a simple, at-home, body weight resistance three times a week (on alternating days), where they performed three sets of 10 repetitions of different upper and lower body exercises.
Results were measured from baseline at four, eight and 12 weeks.
Overall vitality: Study participants were asked a variety of questions to gauge feelings of vitality, such as “do you feel full of life?” As well as questions about relative energy levels and general fatigue. The group taking S. indicus and M. indica reported improvements in this area by the end of the study.
Leg muscle strength: Participants reported an increase in leg extension strength by 3.22%, 4.86%, and 6.86% compared to placebo at weeks four, eight and 12, respectively.2
Muscle endurance: Overall women’s response to the S. indicus and M. indica extract combo was greater than men’s response. Both men and women reported an improvement in muscle endurance when compared to placebo.2
Hand grip strength: The patented S. indicus and M. indica extract combo resulted in improved grip strength by 6.10%, 8.56%, and 9.21% compared to placebo at four, eight and 12 weeks, respectively.2
Six-minute walk test: The patented S. indicus and M. indica extract combo group improved mean walking distance over 12 weeks.2
Sit-to-stand test: Participants taking the patented S. indicus and M. indica extract combo improved their number of sit-to-stand repetitions by week 12.2
